The blasted remnants of the site’s prior quarry usage to fill a series of counterbalanced gabion structures that expand and merge as one ascends.
INSTITUTE FOR SACRED MUSIC
Inspired by sacred caveswherein the geometry of the cavern causes sound to echo in phase; we create a natural space for the amplification and proliferation of sound.
CLIFFSIDE EYRIE
Patterned after the industrial artifact of a saw set and situated on the underside of an exposed cliff face, this structure serves as a doomed overlook over ever-rising waters.
LIVING MEMORIALS
An arrangement of concrete funerary stelae - each unique and containing different affordances for a variety of lifeforms, from anchors for acropora to roosts for seabirds.
Y2Y YOUTH SHELTER
Rooms are arranged amidst a topographic staircase in order to provide a view outwards toward the sunken garden behind the shelter, so that each room has its own unobstructed view.
WEAVER’S STUDIO
A studio designed for alternating between an artist and a scholar in-residence. Perched like a bridgehouse above a lake, twisting louvers frame an ever-changing series of views.
MILL RIVER RESILIENCE PLAN
Using an economic model co-developed with the Yale School of Forestry, we developed a proposal for retreat and resilience on the industrial coast between New Haven and Fair Haven.
