Design for an aquatic system of graves and columbaria in between the barrier islands in Biscayne Bay, around Coconut Grove. The architectural interventions are processional to a series of framed views overlooking a field of funerary stelae lining the inter-tidal edges of the bay.
The stelae themselves are designed based on the range of biodiversity in the area, containing niches and perforations for differing lifeforms, from anchors for acropora, to coves for sea turtles, to roosts for seabirds. The differing amounts of life on each of the stelae will differentiate them as unique, individual grave sites.
